Byron Stewart Trusz Obituary
TRUSZ, Byron Stewart - It is with profound sadness and a very heavy heart, that we announce the passing of Byron Stewart Trusz, age 66, at his home in Lower Selma, after battling illness for many years, with courage and dignity. Byron was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He was the youngest son of William and Robina (Stewart) Trusz.
In his younger days, Byron served in the Canadian Armed Forces, achieving the rank of Lieutenant, before becoming a registered nurse. He lovingly cared for many people as a psychiatric nurse for almost 35 years. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of nearly 40 years, Brenda (Doiron). Byron will be remembered mostly for his sense of humor, love of laughter, strong faith and heartfelt kindness.
He was predeceased by his parents; William and Robina, and his beloved brother, Norman. He is survived by his cousins, Roberta and Diane Stewart, Vancouver, BC. He was the last surviving member of his family.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday July 28, 2026, at St. Kateri’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Phil Thibodeau officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Byron’s memory.
We would like to gratefully acknowledge the excellent care of Dr. Malcolm Meadows Younger, and Dr. Joanne Warren, who cared for Byron so well; along with all the paramedics, first responders, and police officers that were all so helpful when Byron passed; and a special thanks to our wonderful neighbours, Maxine Mantey and Bus Withrow, for their kindness, Margie and Dave, who have been so helpful and to all who called to offer support, to Terry Knockwood and Father Phil for arranging the service and for their spiritual care. God Bless you all.
Tributes, words of comfort and memories of Ron may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com.
