Judith Veronica MacMillan Obituary

MACMILLAN, Judith (Judy) Veronica  - 79, passed away on July 16, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Halifax, Judy was the eldest child of the late James and Deane (White) Hillier.

She spent her childhood in Minasville, Hants County, and graduated from Hants North Rural High School before moving to Halifax. After marrying her late husband, John MacMillan, she settled in Shubenacadie, where she devoted herself to raising their two children, Genaya and David. Her family was her greatest source of pride and joy, and she loved and supported her children unconditionally throughout her life. Although she made her home in Shubenacadie, Judy’s heart was never far from the Noel Shore. As her children grew, she made sure they spent countless Sundays at Grammy and Grandad’s and many sunny summer days at Brown’s Beach, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Genaya Cameron (Eric); her son, David MacMillan (Leah); and her cherished grandchildren, Alec and Charlotte, who were the absolute pride and joy of her life. She is also survived by her sister, Zelda Guimond; her brothers, Barry Hillier and Mike Hillier; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. In addition to her husband, John, Judy was predeceased by her parents and her younger sister, Florence McCulloch.

Judy will be remembered as a kind and genuine mother, Grammy, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved to laugh, share a story, and sing an old country song. Nothing made her happier than gathering around the table with family for a good meal—especially a bowl of hodge podge (made with canned milk, of course) or enjoying her daughter-in-law Leah’s baking.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. A Celebration of Judy’s Life will be held Saturday, August 15th from 1pm - 3pm in the Minasville Community Hall 3680 Route 215 Walton NS B0N 2R0

For those wishing to honour Judy’s memory, donations may be made to the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society, whose care and support services brought comfort to Judy and her family during a difficult time.

Tributes, words of comfort and memories of Judy may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
