Reginald Russel Cox Obituary

Reginald "Reg" Russel Cox

June 6, 1959 – July 1, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Reginald Russel Cox, who left us peacefully on July 1, 2026, at the age of 67. Born in Bancroft, Ontario, on June 6, 1959. Reg was the son of Shirley (Parkhurst) and Charlie Cox. A man defined by duty, community, and an unshakeable love for his family.

He spent his life in service to others. Reg answered the call of duty in 1979, joining the Royal Canadian Navy. For 26 years, he sailed the seas and proudly served his country until his well-earned retirement in 2005. His time on the water forged lifelong bonds, none greater than his brotherhood with his late friend and fellow seaman, Terry Jordan.

Upon hanging up his naval uniform, Reg’s desire to serve didn’t waver. He dedicated 18 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Middle Musquodoboit Station 38, standing as a pillar of strength and safety for his community.

Above all his accolades, Reg was a devoted family man. He was the beloved husband of Cecilia Cox (Mullin), with whom he built a life rooted in love and shared memories. He was a proud and loving father to Nicholas and his wife, Katie, and was profoundly reunited in peace with his son, Christerpher, who predeceased him in 2003.

Reg is survived by his siblings, Helen, Dave (and the late Carol), Chip (Sandra), Heather, and Louise (Dan), as well as his cousin Barry (Connie) and family, and dear friend Barbie Jordan and family. His presence, his stories, and his unwavering reliability will be deeply missed by his extended family, neighbors, and fellow comrades.

Fair winds and following seas, Reg. Your watch is over; we have it from here.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the residence of Nick and Katie. (Please inquire with family members directly for the address details). Light food and refreshments. In the spirit of community, guests are welcome to bring a favorite dish to share potluck-style. If you wish to enjoy alcoholic beverages, please bring your own.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Reg’s memory to the Middle Musquodoboit Volunteer Fire Department (Station 38).

Tributes, words of comfort and memories of Reg may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
