Myrna Gertrude West Obituary

WEST, Myrna Gertrude, age 81, of Milford, Hants County, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro. Born in Riversdale, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Gertrude (MacKay) Carter.

Myrna will be remembered first and foremost as a devoted wife, mother, and proud grandmother whose warmth, kindness, and steady presence shaped the lives of her family. She took great joy in her grandchildren—Tiffany, Hayden, and Taylor—celebrating their accomplishments, sharing stories, and creating lasting memories through time spent together. Her love for them was constant and deeply felt, and she took great pride in each of them.

She shared a deep love of birdwatching with her husband, Art, finding joy in nature and quiet moments together. A gifted and creative spirit, Myrna expressed her talents through quilting, painting, carving, and beautifully decorating her home, making it a welcoming place for family and friends.

Myrna was a dedicated partner in the operation of the family dairy farm, working alongside Art with care and commitment. She cherished time spent with friends, particularly around the card table. An avid and highly skilled bridge player, Myrna was known for her sharp mind, strategic thinking, and competitive spirit. She found great enjoyment in the game and the friendships it fostered, often spending hours playing and perfecting her skills.

She was also known as an exceptional cook, and no one ever left her table hungry. Whether hosting family gatherings or enjoying outings—especially trips to Swiss Chalet with her sister—Myrna found happiness in sharing meals and companionship.

In her retirement years, Myrna embraced travel with Art, creating treasured memories on many trips, with an Alaskan cruise standing out as a particular highlight.

Myrna is survived by her loving sons, James (Charlene), Richard, and Jason (Angie); her cherished grandchildren, Tiffany, Hayden, and Taylor; her sister, Pat; her brother, Lorne; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry her memory forward with love.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arthur; her brother, John; and her daughter-in-law, Kim.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their compassionate care, kindness, and support during Myrna’s final days.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Homes.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1–3 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
