William Carter "Bill" McMullen Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly remarkable man.

MCMULLEN, William “Bill” Carter- age 88, of Enfield passed away peacefully on March 12th, 2026. Born in Halifax (raised in Oldham), he was the son of the late Herbert and Lydia (Wambolt) McMullen.

Bill was known as a hardworking and strong-willed person who faced life head-on. Through dedication and perseverance, Bill built a life defined by integrity, resilience, and quiet pride in doing things the right way. He believed in showing up, putting in the hard work, and standing by the people he loved. He was a man of faith who cared deeply for his family and friends.

Bill served in the military for 37 years his hard work and dedication allowed him to climb the ranks and serve his country proudly. Bill was one of the first to work on and fly in the Sea Kings, in 1959. Bill ended his naval career as the final standing Chief Warrant Officer at CFB Chatham.  After retiring at the age of 55, Bill drove the school bus for 10 years for the Chignecto Central School Board. Bill’s focus through his careers carried over after this final retirement and that was to enjoy life with the love of his life, his wife Lillian, and enjoy his family and grandchildren, all of whom were his pride and joy.

Bill had a lifelong love of sports, whether it was hockey, broomball, squash, baseball, running or lifting weights, he embraced competition with enthusiasm and dedication. That same passion carried over into coaching where he spent many years guiding and encouraging countless community teams.

One of Bill’s most cherished roles, however, was being a devoted grandfather. He rarely missed a practice or game and could always be found cheering from the sidelines, proudly supporting his grandchildren or family members in all their activities.

Bill also had a deep passion for the outdoors. Fishing and hunting brought him countless hours of peace and enjoyment in nature – something he proudly enjoyed with family and friends and passed down to his family. Unless they were attending a sporting event or dance, you could almost always find Bill & Lillian back at their cabin on Cousins Lake or stopping for a drink at Bear Meadow Brook. The memories created there with family and friends will be treasured and held close to the hearts of many for years to come.

Bill is survived by his children, Pamela (David) Hancock, William (Kyia) McMullen; grandchildren, Ashley, Chad and Joely and great grandchild, Kaden. Sister, Elsie, and brother, Harry.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife, Lillian; by brothers, Herbert and Gordon and sister, Shirley.  Plus, many brothers and sister in-laws and nieces and nephews, and close friends.

A special note of heartfelt thanks is extended to the caregivers and special friend - who stood faithfully by Bill’s side over the past three years. Your compassion, patience, and dedication allowed him to remain in the comfort of his home – a place he cherished deeply. Your kindness and care brought him dignity, comfort, and companionship during his final years, and our family will always be grateful for the love and support you showed him each day.
