HINES, Clara Merle- age 93 of Truro, formerly of Shubenacadie passed away March 9, 2026, at the Mira, Truro. Born in Carrolls Corner, she was a daughter of the late John and Katie (Currie) Phalen.

Merle grew up in Carrolls Corner and later moved to Shubenacadie and Truro. She worked many secretarial jobs beginning at Stanfield’s in Truro, Hants East Rural High School, Shubenacadie Coop and for Cora Etter. She retired to stay home and care for her mom. Merle and Auley enjoyed many trips to old time fiddle concerts. Her greatest pride was caring for her home, baking and always enjoyed having people come to visit. Merle and Auley spent their last years together at the Mira.

She is survived by sister in-law, Bess Hines; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Auley; sisters, Pearl, Gertrude “Toots” and Ruby.

A special thanks to the staff at the Mira for their care of Merle these last years.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. No service as per Merle’s wishes. Private burial to be held at a later date.
