MACGREGOR (Horne), Claire Elizabeth - With sadness, the family announces the passing of Claire on February 11, 2026 in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the age of 83.

Born during the war in north end Halifax to the late Maurice and Emma (MacDonnell) Horne, Claire was a woman of quiet beauty and stunning intellect. She completed a B.A. and B.Ed. at Mount Saint Vincent University and a M.L.I.S. at Dalhousie University.

Family was her priority, but she also made time to pursue her passions for literature, Scrabble, bridge, tennis and the New York Times crossword. In later years, she enjoyed ballroom dancing, hiking in the Nova Scotian woods and road trips around the Maritimes. Claire was at her best when analyzing her children’s woes to provide clear perspective and advice. She could also be counted upon for unsolicited grammar correction, a by-product of recurring higher education pursuits.

Claire is survived by her loyal husband, Clive MacGregor. She was a dedicated mother to her children, Carolyn Boyd, Leslie Putnam, Margo Boyd and Landon Boyd (Denise Hong], whom she shared with her former husband, the late Peter Boyd. She is also survived by her husband’s children, Jennifer and Daniel, as well as her much loved grandchildren Sydney, Madeleine and Ava Putnam, and Colette and Stephanie Boyd, and siblings Frank (Anne) Horne, Ralph Horne (Jenny Gonzalez), and Ruth (Jack) Logan.

A celebration of Claire’s life will be held on Saturday February 21, 2-4 PM at Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Words from the family at 2:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home Foundation.
