Joanne Elizabeth (Cantfell) Campbell

 Born on September 18th, 1958 – Passed peacefully January 14, 2026, at the age of 67, with her devoted husband and daughters at her side. Joanne was the daughter of the late Chester and Mary “Jean” Cantfell and the youngest of eleven children.

Affectionately known as “Chester,” “Jo,” “Mom,” and “Nanny,” Joanne will be remembered for her fierce, no-nonsense personality, quick wit, and her ability to turn a simple pot of goulash into cherished family memories. She had a way of making people feel comfortable, loved, and well fed — usually all at once.

Joanne will be eternally missed by Raymond, her husband of 47 years; her daughters, Angela and Crystal; her sons-in-law, Mel and Stephen; and her adoring grandchildren, Liam, Ewan, Faber, Katie, and Oliver. They will remember her as someone who always made them feel worthy, accepted, and loved. 

Joanne was well known for her dry, sarcastic humour, “make no much wonder” her honest heart, and even her cranky side—which everyone loved just the same.

Joanne taught her family and those who were lucky enough to know her that tough times are better with a shoulder to lean on and people you love beside you, and that a life with family and few good friends is truly a life to cherish. 

The family would like thank the oncology team Dr. Drucker & Murilla for the care provided during Joanne’s hard fought battle with cancer, and the staff on the palliative care unit at the CEHHC (Dr. Patterson, Janet & Mary Jane) for the kindness and compassion shown during Joanne’s final days. 

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Carrolls Corner Community Centre on February 22, 2026 from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Family and friends are welcome.
