AUGUSTINE, Darrell Leo Thomas - age 37, of Indian Brook, passed away on January 13th, 2026. Born in Halifax, NS, he was the son of the late Darrell Augustine, Elsipoqtoq and Angeline (Julian) Augustine, Indian Brook.

Growing up Darrell spent time with many of the family members, they all helped him during his childhood and youth. He was a proud member of Kiju’s Boyz when he lived in Paqtnkek with Uncle Rob. He enjoyed the powwow trail drumming in his youth, and then watching his own kids dance when he got older. Darrell was a great dad who loved his kids, he enjoyed taking them out to hotels and swimming. They never went without anything, especially time him and their mother, Wabuhno.

Aside from spending time with his family he enjoyed playing basketball with the ‘Indian Brook Ballerz’, his good humour and style made him a great team member. Darrell was always listening to his music, he enjoyed a variety of music, particularly rap, powwow tunes, and the occasional country song. He will always be remembered for his big smile and kind heart. He was a seasonal fisherman and enjoyed eeling with his partner Wabuhno, this included many late nights and run ins with the DFO, which never stopped him from exercising his inherent Treaty rights.

He is survived by his children, Angeliah, Arellaina and Darrell Augustine; siblings, Elena, Robert, April, Teressa, Angie, Travis, and Kayla; Godmother, Denise Julian; godchildren, Shaznay Julian, Lyndon Levi, Kierra Sack, Patrick Nevin and Briar Augustine; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his partner, Wabuhno Howe; sisters, Carrie Julian, Nadine Paul; and nephew, Rylan McDonald.

Visitation will begin on the evening of Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 67 Tuff Street, Indian Brook until a Traditional Ceremony which will take place at 11am on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Indian Brook Community Centre. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Community Cemetery, Indian Brook. All traditional ceremonies will be led by whom the family wishes to thank for his kindness and support this difficult time. A meal for family and friends will be held at the Indian Brook Community Centre, following the burial ceremony.
