MACDOUGALL, Keith Raymond Nelson – of South Maitland, passed away peacefully at the age of 80, with family by his side, on December 30, 2025, after a stroke. Born in Walton, he was a son of the late John Frederick George and Kathleen Gertrude (Archibald) MacDougall. He is also predeceased by his brothers David and Frank and infant sister Bonita Rose.

Growing up in South Maitland, he lived his life grounded in hard work and independence. After marrying Elizabeth “Betty” (Connors) in 1965, they moved to Toronto and raised three children. Keith was a true jack of all trades and could fix anything, especially when it came to cars. He worked for Goodyear and various other companies in Toronto before the family moved back to Nova Scotia (Lower Sackville) in 1976, where he worked as an Apprentice Marine Electrician with his father at the Halifax Shipyards. Later he founded a furniture moving company with his brother David. After 22 years, Keith and Betty’s marriage came to an amicable end and they remained friends. Keith moved back to Toronto, where he worked as a warehouse foreman. He lived there for several years before returning to South Maitland to take care of his mother. He lived out the remainder of his years in the family home that his father built over 85 years ago, a place filled with history and memories.

Keith is survived by his three children, Brian (Ann) of Toronto, Lauriann of Halifax, Susan (George) of Toronto; and his two grandchildren, Megan (Adam) of Halifax and Tyler of Bedford. He also leaves behind his brother, Curtis (Lori) of Oshawa; and his sister, Margo (Gene) of Truro. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors, compassionate nurses and staff at both the Colchester East Hants Health Centre and the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital for the kindness, care, and comfort they provided to Keith.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. A graveside service and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
