Obituary of Jean Bond

Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

BOND, Hazel “Jean” age 80, of Upper Nine Mile River, passed away on December 10, 2025, in the VG Site, QEII Health Science Centre, Halifax. Born in Upper Kennetcook, she was a daughter of the late Bertrand “Bertie” and Mary Robina “Beanie” (Burton) Lantz.

Jean was born and raised in Upper Kennetcook and worked for MT&T until she met the love of her life, Donald. Jean married Donald in 1967 and moved to Upper Rawdon where they raised two children. In 1982 they together bought a dairy farm from Donald's brother and incorporated into what is now known as Bonderosa Farms in Upper Nine Mile River, where Jean and Donald built their forever home in 1995.  Jean is best known for her bright smile and original laugh, her sense of humor, her love and compassion for everyone who came into her life and of course for her delicious deep-fried donuts.  Jean loved her community and her church and was committed to volunteering to many fundraisers, being an active member of the Firettes, UCW and Treasurer for the Rawdon Hills United church for many years.   Jean loved friendly competition and thoroughly enjoyed being on a bowling league and playing monthly Saturday night card games with her closest friends.  Most of all, Jean loved her family. She was truly devoted to her children and grandchildren as well as her nieces and nephews. Nothing could light up her face more than when they walked through her door.

She is survived by her daughter, Krista Kempster, Lower Sackville; son, Gregory (Amy), Upper Nine Mile River; grandchildren, Jacob, Halifax; Jaime, Ottawa, ON; Violet; step grandchildren, Lindsay and Faith; sister, Brenda (Harley) White, River John; brother, Bill (Anne) Lantz, Ottawa, ON, several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Donald; sisters, Annie Weatherhead, Norma Marshall, Phyllis Publicover.

Visitation will be held 6-8pm Thursday, December 18th in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie from where a funeral service will take place 1pm Saturday, December 20th, Rev.
