MALONEY (PAUL), Doris Paulette – age 78, of Indian Brook, passed away peacefully, with her children by her side, on November 18th, 2025, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Indian Brook, she was a daughter of the late Joseph (Joe) and Irene (Howe) Paul.
Doris had a lifelong passion for education and a deep commitment to helping students succeed. Whether it meant driving children to school when they missed the bus or offering encouragement at just the right moment, she believed every student deserved the opportunity to learn and thrive.
Education was profoundly important to her, and she passed this value on to her children, her nieces and nephews, and to the many students she supported over the years. Doris played an active role in her community’s educational growth, serving as an Education Guidance Councillor and later as Director of Education. Combining education with Sports, she coordinated a partnership with St. Mary’s University to provide a Hockey School for the youth of Indian Brook.
Her impact extended far beyond the school system. Doris was an active member of her local Seniors Group, known for generously cooking, volunteering and fundraising for community gatherings, events, and funerals. Through this group, she helped fundraise to build the Church Glee House and the Indian Brook Multipurpose Center, demonstrating her dedication to both learning and community.
She had a great love for the children of her community, in her early years she helped establish The Angel Tree program, ensuring families in need were remembered during the holidays.
In the 1980s, Doris and friends helped launch the School Lunch Program at Shubenacadie District School, a project that jumpstarted a program that continues to benefit children to this day.
Doris’s life was defined by service, generosity, and her unwavering belief in the power of education. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and through the countless lives she touched and the community she helped strengthen.
