James Carlton Kearney Obituary

KEARNEY, James Carlton -  of Truro formerly South Woodside. It is with profound sadness the family announce his passing at the age of 76 after a long battle with cancer. Jimmy was born in Halifax to the late Gerald and Helen (West) Kearney.

He is survived by his sister, Gina (Tony Croft), Cow Bay; brother, Kerry, Dartmouth; his nieces, Holly, Wanda and Becky; cousins, Bonnie (Robert Winter), Ottawa; Barbara Nastuk, Fraser West (Gerry) Dartmouth; and long time friend, Karen Ann, Halifax.

Jimmy grew up in the family home in South Woodside, then move to Barr Settlement and spent his final days in Truro. He started working at 16 years of age, going to sea on various ships (Irving Oil and Coast Guard).  He then worked for HRM, Parks and Recreation for 27 years, retiring in 2005.

Jimmy loved animals, especially dogs. He loved attending exhibitions and cattle auctions.

Jimmy often reminisced of visits to his cousins (the Davidsons and Wests) in Coalburn, Pictou County.

Special thanks to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit, Truro Hospital, Dr. Farrahi, his good friends, Murray, Brian, Carl and Delores Bond.

Nancy, Sandy, Josephine and Dewayne, Thanks.
