HAMILTON, Gregory Scott — With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Greg Hamilton, at the age of 57. Greg passed away peacefully at home in Middle Musquodoboit, on September 25th with his family and his little dog, Marshall, by his side.
Born in Truro on July 22, 1968, Greg was the proud son of Gary and Joanne Hamilton of St. Margaret’s Bay, Halifax. He grew up in Middle Sackville, a young man full of energy, a love for fast cars, and good times.
One of dad’s first jobs was at Burger King, where he didn’t last long after eating all of the bacon. He spent many years working alongside his father at Scotia Meters Limited, and years of petroleum work, mechanic jobs, and courier runs, including running his own company for some time, HAMCO Mechanical.
A passionate NASCAR fan, dad rarely missed a Sunday Cup Series race, often watched from his favorite chair with Marshall at his side. He travelled to the United States several times to watch these races in person, his favourite track being New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He also loved cheering at his home track, Scotia Speedworld, or Petty International Raceway in New Brunswick. Beyond racing, he enjoyed drives around Nova Scotia in any truck, time spent outdoors on his property, and being with his son and daughter. He loved camping, PEI and swimming in the ocean.
Dad also had a daily tradition of calling his parents, sharing news, trading stories, and keeping family connections close. Above all, dad loved his family deeply.
Dad is survived and will be forever remembered by his children, Taylor and Jarrett and their mother, Lisa; his parents, Gary and Joanne; his sister, Kimberlee (Mike) Benvie; his nephews, Anthony and Matthew, and niece, Hannah; and his little buddy, Marshall (aka Bean). He was also eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first grandchild, whom he would have cherished and adored.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Bill and Frances (Fisher) Hamilton, and his maternal grandparents Hans and Inga Rasmussen.
The family would love to extend great thanks and appreciation to all the doctors and staff at the QEII Health Science Centre, Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre, and his continuing care nurses Loralee, Martina, and Felicia, among many others. We thank you.
Visitation will be held from 1-2pm with a funeral service beginning at 2pm on Monday, September 29th in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2 Shubenacadie. Burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke.
Donations can be made to the following, of your choosing, the Canadian Diabetes Association, Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the QEII Health and Science Centre Foundation.
Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Greg can be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
