Ray MacKinnon Obituary

With great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Ray MacKinnon, 84, of West Indian Road on September 23, 2025, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Ray was born in West Indian Road, on May 30, 1941, a son of the late Calvin and Minnie (Lively) MacKinnon.

Ray spent his career working in the Foresty Industry working along side his brothers, Elroy, Wilson and Floyd. Besides spending time with his beloved family, one of his other great loves was fiddle music and often could be found tending to his gardens and tinkering in his workshop making his famous crokinole boards. He was also a passionate Blue Jays fan but what he loved most was bringing family and friends together and creating unforgettable memories.

Ray left a profound and lasting impression on those who were fortunate enough to be close to him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sandra (Manley); his son, Aaron (Joy); and 2 precious grandchildren, Raya and Reese, who he adored, as well as close siblings, Mary, Wilson, Ferne, Floyd and Leonard. He is also survived by brothers in-law, Vernon (Sally Allen) Manley and Kevin (Valerie Bolivar) Manley; sister in-law, Donna (Paul) Brimicombe. As well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Elroy, foster brother, John Morash; brothers-in-law, Loyd Gilby and George McCoombs as well as his sisters-in-law, Carol MacKinnon, Joyce Manley and Kelly MacKinnon.

The family wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who took part in Ray’s care over the last few years including Dr. Henderson, and the doctors and nurses on 3D and 3E at the Colchester East Hants Heath Centre. We would also like to thank VON and the At Home Palliative Care team that played an essential part in us being able to care for him at home.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm Sunday, September 28th in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Prayers and eulogy will begin at 1pm followed by a visitation until 3pm. Family and friends are invited to gather, share stories, laughter, and love as we honor a man who brought so much joy to the world around him.

Donations in memory can be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Ray may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com.

Rest in peace Ray, you will forever be in our hearts.
