Obituary of Gordon Phillip Miller
Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MILLER, Gordon Phillip- age 90 of Shubenacadie, passed away quietly Thursday, September 18th, at the Halifax Infirmary, QEII Health Science Centre. Born on February 5th, 1935, Gordie was a son of the late Phil and Ruth (Anthony) Miller.
Family events were always a priority, and whether it was a holiday meal, a wedding, or a work crew preparing the winter’s wood, Gordie was always there. He spent many hours back in the woods with a chainsaw in his hands and could sharpen a chain better than new. He would also be expected to participate in the serious rounds of crib that followed every event. He was a lover of music, especially Old-time Fiddle and Bluegrass, played the harmonica, and was a member of his family choir. He attended Halifax Vocational School to become a mechanic and started his career at Goodspeeds in Truro eventually moving on to the Halifax International Airport where he retired as Maintenance Supervisor.
While he still could, he made regular rounds to see his grandchildren and often arrived with a load of fresh picked berries. He could be seen discussing current events with the Tim’s crew or patrolling the county with BJ MacPhee.
Married in 1962 to Rita (Crocker) until her passing in 2018, they had three children; James (Heidi), Ann (Kerry), Dale (Coralee). “Poppy” was adored by his grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander, Thomas, Matthew, Jenny, Logan, Sydney, and Lauren and by his great grandchildren, Jackson, Ophelia, Sloan, Jayden and Joey. He is also survived by siblings; Merrill, Lois (MacKeil), Carol (Munroe), David, Helen (Brightman), and Walter.
Besides his parents and wife, Rita, he is predeceased by brother, Donald and sisters; Rose (Lloyd) and Norma (Cameron).
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-4pm Wednesday, October 1st in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie.
Special thank you to Maxine, the VanderKooi’s, the Elderidge’s, Dr McNeil, Earth Angels and Laurel’s Lake.
