Obituary of Marie Jeroena Huybers
HUYBERS (van Wijchen), Marie Jeroena, age 97. It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother and grandmother, on September 20th, 2025, at The Mira, Truro. Born in Ravenstein, Netherlands, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine van Wijchen.
Immigrating to Canada in the early 1950’s with her husband and two young children they first settled in Ontario for 11 years before moving to Milford, N.S. where they would buy a dairy farm, welcome their third child and continue to build a life together. Marie enjoyed many hobbies including, bowling, knitting, cooking and gardening. Marie would never pass up on a good game of cards or the chance to go shopping with her sister-in-law, Anne Vissers.
Family was the most important part of Marie’s life, and she was a true Matriarch, a central figure who made sure her children and grandchildren were deeply loved and cared for.
She is survived by her children; Thea (Dan) White, Peter (Gail) Huybers and Martin (Amanda) Huybers; grandchildren, Kevin, Stephen, Stacy, Christopher, Kendall, Peter, Lyndsay and Brandon; great grandchildren, Ryker, Kylie, Elliot, Matthew, Alexander, Emma, Layla, Leo, Jase, Liam,
Aurora and Fiona; great- great grandchildren, Amelia and Athena. Also survived by brother, Theo van Wijchen and sister, Hennie Voet (van Wijchen)
Marie is predeceased by her husband, Rene Martin Huybers, brothers: Dolf, Piet, Nol and Adriaan; sisters, Grada, Toos and Jo.
Funeral service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, September 27th at St Bridget’s Roman Catholic Church, Shubenacadie. Father Jim O’Connor officiating. Reception to follow in the reception area of St Bridget’s, all are welcome. Burial will be held after the reception in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke.
