Marion Elaine Wilcox Obituary

WILCOX, Marion Elaine (Castle) - Dartmouth, NS, age 79, peacefully moved on from this world on September 12, 2025 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Carroll’s Corner in 1946, Marion was one of eight children of the late Jack and Shirley (Benjamin) Castle.

Marion is survived by and loved by her daughters, Karen (Tim Cook) and Shauna, grand-daughters Madeline, Suzannah, Lily and Marley and brothers Donnie, Lee, Phil and Perry. Marion was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Leonard (2008), sister Kathryn “Kay” and brothers Jerry and Alvin.

Marion met the love of her life, Leonard, during her high school years. They married in 1966 and first settled in Dartmouth, NS. After their two daughters were born, they moved the family to Stewiacke, NS. She and Leonard built four homes together; one in Dartmouth and then three in Stewiacke. Always busy, Marion was active in her church - Stewiacke Baptist and then Gays River United and with her family, enjoyed holiday celebrations, travelling, gardening and many crafts and projects. Speaking of crafts, she always something on the go – quilting, sewing, baking, tole painting, needlepoint, and in her later years, knitting mittens that many people have been the recipient of.

She was an athlete in her youth. During her high school years, she played on her school soccer, basketball and track and field teams; receiving Athlete of the Year medal two consecutive years. Marion went on to study nursing at the Nova Scotia Hospital, launching her career as a Registered Nurse. Her last thirteen years of her career were as Director of Nursing at Musquodoboit Valley Hospital.

Marion was on the quiet side; she often didn’t say much, but she was a good listener. She was a good friend to many, and very generous with her family. Marion enjoyed being in the centre of activity, taking part in whatever the family was doing – especially if that was a game of rummy. She was always dressed to the nines; right down to her earrings, a brooch on her jacket or a matching scarf.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Dartmouth General Palliative Care Unit for their kindness and support. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Ettinger Funeral Home in Shubenacadie, NS. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 NS-2, Shubenacadie, NS. A reception will follow immediately after the service at Ettinger Funeral Home. Family burial will take place immediately after at Pine Grove Cemetery.
