Obituary of Lorna Margaret Barr

BARR, Lorna Margaret, age 92, Brookfield, formerly of Shubenacadie, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025 in Elk Court, Brookfield.  Born in Mill Village, she was a daughter of the late Ruban and Hilda (Delp) Joudrey and was raised by the late George and Margaret Hirtle.  

Lorna lived a life centred around family, the farm, animals and hard work.  She had a lifelong passion about the 4H movement, beginning with her days in Calf Club as a young child.  Never one to shy away from work, Lorna toiled by her husband’s side working on all aspects of the family dairy farm.  She furthered her education as an adult, taking both a business course and a woodworking course at Hants East Rural High. 

She is survived by her sons, Neil (Christine) and Carl (Kathy); daughters, Margaret (Dewey) and Marion; grandchildren, Brian, Jason, Gregory, Richard, Holly, Alexandra, Simon and Jeremy; 15 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Lorna was the last surviving member of her immediate family and her husband’s family.  She was predeceased by her husband, George, foster son, Richard; great grandson, Joshua; sisters, Lois Creelman, Lillian Cross and Eleanor Stevens; brothers, Buddy and Billy.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM Sunday, July 13th at Ettinger’s Funeral Home, Shubenacadie, from where the funeral service will be held 2 PM Monday, July 14^th, Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford officiating.

Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Mill Village.  Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choosing.
