GILLIS, Donald David – of Elmsdale. It is with deep and heavy hearts, but also with a sense of peace that we announce the death of Donald David Gillis on July 4, 2025 at 85 years of age.

His career started in the service station industry, first as a mechanic, then managing several stations in Halifax/Dartmouth. In 1978 he and Pat bought the Gulf Station, Enfield. Donnie became friends with practically everyone in the community and they provided employment for dozens of young adults. After retiring, Donnie kept busy with his snow plowing business in the winter then went back to the woods, hauling logs for firewood starting each spring.

He was known as a man who always had a well embellished joke to tell, as well as a plethora of fishing stories. Don was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed his fishing trips to the Gaspe, the Miramichi as well as his camp in Tangier. Donnie loved a good game of cards, listening to live music and dancing with the love of his life.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Patsy of 65 years and his three children, Darlene Gillis, Marilyn Gillis (Bruce MacDonnell) and David (Sharon) Gillis. He loved his grandchildren, Dayna, Charlie, Mason, Liam, Jacob and Luke.

He will be missed, especially by his lovely wife and his children who treasure the fishing memories, Jeep trips and snowmobile adventures.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes.
