PAUL, Keptin Donald David Paul “Dunnan”, age 81 – Sipekne’katik, Nova Scotia

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandad, brother, uncle, and friend, Dunnan.

Born May 22, 1944, Dunnan passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on June 22, 2025.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne, and his children: Cathy, Kendra, Arianna, Jynell, Bernadette, Tracy, and Dawn Marie. He was a proud and loving grandad to Michaela, Kayl, Kynlee, Brooklyn, Sage, Brent, Jessica, Nathan, and Kevin. Dunnan is also survived by his sisters Alexanderine (Popsy), Matilda, Lorraine, and Marie, and his brother Stan, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a beloved godfather to Sheila, Katrina, Taylor, Conner and Mathew.

He was predeceased by his daughter Sherry; his biological parents, Catherine Etter Paul and Michael Bernard; and by Mary Bridget and Andrew Paul, the parents who lovingly raised him. He was also predeceased by his sisters Pat, Leitha, Nora, Linda, Evelyn, and Alice; and brothers Joseph, Stephen, Vincent, Jim, Lemmy, and Albert ; and his godchild, Paul.

Over the years, Dunnan worked as a truck driver and carpenter, but he found great meaning in his most recent role as a volunteer driver and process server for Mi’kmaw Family & Children’s Services, where he served faithfully for 21 years retiring only earlier this month.

Dunnan will always be remembered for his distinct infectious laugh, his warmth, and the way he made people feel welcome wherever he went. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held beginning at 12 noon, Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 35 Dowie Road, Indian Brook.  A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM Saturday, June 26, 2025 in St. Kateri’s Church, Father Phil Thibodeau officiating. Burial will follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
