Obituary of Stephen Maynard Black

BLACK, Stephen Maynard – age 60 of Halifax, passed away on May 23rd, 2025, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Truro, he was the son of Cecil and the late Patricia (Singer) Miller.

Stephen loved his many pets, watching history documentaries with Katrina, cooking, cherry ice cream, chinese food, and cracking jokes with family and friends.  Stephen enjoyed going for drives and riding dirt bikes in his youth. Besides working in carpentry, Stephen had worked security on many movie sets in Los Angeles.

Stephen is survived by his loving wife, Katrina; sisters, Amanda (Troy) Vaughan, Anita (J.C.) Foster, Kathy Deagle, Susan Caldwell, Debbie (Eddy) Arab and Valerie MacKenzie; brothers, Robert (Gerri) Black and Grahamie O’Hanley; nephews, Gabriel, Quinn, David, Jacob, Dalton and Tommy; nieces, Stephanie, Lisa, Jamie-Lynn, Samantha and Jeannie; beloved son-in-law to Linda (Mumsy) and Bill French and the late Eric Ashton.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie and Elmsdale. A celebration of life service will take place at 11 am on Thursday, May 29th, 2025, in the Hardwood Lands Presbyterian Church, Rev. Beth Mattinson officiating. Burial to take place directly after in the Hardwood Lands Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses from the QEII VG site for the compassionate care they gave Stephen during his stay.
