Obituary of John Harold Potter
POTTER, John Harold – age 65 of Enfield, passed away on May 6th, 2025, in the QEII Infirmary Site, Halifax. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Dr. Stanley and Emily (Dorgan) Potter.
John spent his early years growing up in Sheet Harbour, later moving to Pictou where he met his wife, Mary Ann. Before retiring in 2024, John was employed by Konica Minolta Business Solutions. John was also known in the community as a local repairman of most electronic equipment. Never one to sit idle, he was always working on a home renovation project or working in the yard. He enjoyed reading, long country road drives, walking on the beach while watching the waves and hunting for sea glass, and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. Never one to take life too seriously, he loved to make people laugh while welcoming them with a bowl of his famous chowder.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Thorne); children, Matt (Carrie), Lantz; Kris (Mikaela), Mt. Uniacke; grandchildren, Jolie, Tanner and Kai; siblings, Mike (Jane), Alberta; Andy (Dorothee), Ontario; Mary Elizabeth, Ontario; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 13th, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. A reception will follow in the funeral home hospitality area. Rev. Natalie Buchanan-Rutherford will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the VG Haematology Dept., in particular Dr. Maggie McGuire, and his care nurse, Crystal Banks, for the excellent care John received over the past two years, and more recently, Palliative Care nurse, Dawn Ross.
