Obituary of Phyllis Olive MacPhee

Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

MacPHEE, Phyllis O. – age 91, of Stewiacke, formerly of North Salem passed away April 1, 2025 at The Myra, Truro. Born in North Salem, she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Lila (Parker) Langille.

Phyllis worked at Scott’s Restaurant in Shubenacadie for 35 years, where she waited tables and was known for her coconut cream and lemon pies. In the early days, if she made a dollar a day in tips, it was considered a good day. She was also known for her homemade donuts; she would deliver them on special occasions to people she cared about. If you were ever feeling down or sick, you could count on a few donuts to perk you up. Mom would save until she could pay cash for whatever she bought, never once borrowing from a bank.

Phyllis enjoyed her time in Stewiacke, where she was supported by neighbors and friends.  She was a member of UCC and a past elder, a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 111 for 44 years and a volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary and the Tin Smith Museum. She joined the Crescent Rebekah Lodge in 1972, and she was Noble Grand numerous times, even after the Shubenacadie Lodge closed, she joined the Truro Diamond Lodge #15.

In her younger days she and Donnie loved attending the dances in Nine Mile River. In later years she loved to go for drives, especially in Rod’s convertible with Sandra’s tilly hat on her head, and her feet tapping to the music. She was strong, stubborn and independent and seemed to fit in with any age group, young or old. She was loved beyond words and will be forever in our hearts.

She will be missed by her daughters, Janie Conley (Rod Gilby), Sandra MacPhee; grandson, Josh Garden (Kassi Dill); great granddaughter, Blair Garden; several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by husband, Alfred, partner, Donnie Bruce; sisters, Beatrice Curry, Pearl Robinson, Marion Williams, Lois VanderKooi; infant brother, Rex; Josh’s dad and Blair’s grampa, Don Garden.

Visitation will be held 2-4pm Saturday, April 5th in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie from where a funeral service will be held 2pm Sunday, April 6th, Rev.
