Kenneth Walter McKenna
October 31, 1947 – February 24, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loved one, Kenny. He died on February 24th, surrounded by loved ones, at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre in Truro.
Also known to many as “Blinkie”, “Jack”, “KJ”, “Papa”, “Grendad”, “Skipper” and “Uncle Tease”.
In his work life, he started as a striker for a local trucking company. In his late teens, he joined the army at Fort Gary Horse. Being drawn back to Nova Scotia, he was honorably discharged to come home to drive a truck for L.E Shaw/The Shaw Group, which he did for 39 years. After retiring from driving, he worked on the grounds crew at Links at Penn Hills for several years.
He was married to the love of his life, Patty (Ashley) for almost 55 years. He was so proud of his children; Sandy (Todd), Sarah and Jason (Nancy) and his four granddaughters; Norah, Emily, Rachel and Sophie. He will also be deeply missed by his sisters Pat and Linda and brother John (Jan), as well as his large extended family including numerous nieces and nephews. Kenny was predeceased by his parents, Nick and Aileen McKenna and sisters Vera and Joy.
The family would like to thank Dr. Rosie (Kepkay), Elmsdale Medical Centre, and the staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, especially unit D3 and Meghan in palliative care.
There will be a funeral service on Saturday, March 1st at 11 AM at Christ Church in Lantz, Rev’d Dr. Jane Magrath officiating. A reception will follow at the Riverline Activity Centre in Dutch Settlement from 12-3 pm.
We also request that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the charity of your choice.
