Obituary of Harold Edwin Goswell

Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

GOSWELL, Harold Edwin -age 89, of Mill Village, passed away with family by his side on February 8, 2025, in Debert Court, Debert. Born in Seaview, he was a son of the late Calder and Mary “Rene” (Bona) Goswell. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Harold was a hard worker his entire life and this started at an early age.  When he was about 11 years old he would go fishing on the Bras d’Or lakes in a dory and recalled being surrounded by fish.  In his teens, Harold worked at Sydney shipyards. He moved to Halifax and worked in construction.  In 1981 he purchased Wilson Truck Bodies, Truro and operated it for a number of years.  He was a skilled heavy-duty mechanic and welder.  In “retirement” Harold enjoyed time at the cottage, being a handy man and keeping everyone’s tractors running and up to par; also lending a hand wherever he could. He took great pride in his vegetable garden each year- maybe a little bit competitive to see who could grow the most tomatoes and other veggies.  Harold was passionate about swimming, attending the seniors’ swim sessions at the Milford pool faithfully for many years. He loved all children and pets.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, David (Debbie), Jeffrey (Randy); Frank (Mary Ann), Kevin (Ellen); stepdaughters, Kathy (Carl), Sherry (Jamie); grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Webb, Shaun (Young) Goswell, Joel (Olivia) Goswell; several other grandchildren, great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, John, James Irvin “Jim” and a sister, Ann.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4pm Friday, February 14, 2025 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. A committal service will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory can be made to Debert Court Palliative Care, Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or Shubenacadie United Church.
