Obituary of Mavis Hole

Please share a memory of Mavis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

HOLE, Dorothy Mavis- age 93 of Truro, passed away peacefully with family by her side October 1st, 2021 in The Mira, Truro.  Born February 3rd 1928 in Shropshire, England, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Lillian (Edwards) Dawes.

Mavis and her family emigrated from the UK in the late 1960's and settled in Ontario.  Several of these years were spent on a beef/sheep farm near Stittsville, Ont.  The animals flourished under Norman and Mavis' care.  They also worked with the local Lands and Forest Dept and took in orphaned and rescued raccoons.  With their loving care, these sweet creatures were released back into the wild when ready.  They then moved to the east end of Ottawa where Mavis tried her hand at raising Nubian goats.  She was so successful that she won awards at local fairs and had some of her goats sent to St. Thomas to help with their breeding program. Mavis was legendary in her love of all animals. Her gentleness and profound intuition healed many animals throughout her lifetime, and this was a trait shared by her dear husband. Throughout all situations, Mavis maintained her wonderful sense of humour while determining the best way to resolve a problem.

Mavis was always beautifully “put together” and even near the end, she had every hair in place! She was always an example of neatness, confidence and pride which she instilled in her daughters as they grew up. Also, in her realm of influence, was her totally unprejudiced view of the world and other people. Regardless of race, colour or creed, Mavis had the ability to see through to the soul of the person and she was dearly loved and respected for this. Mavis will be sadly missed as she was a kind and positive force in the lives of her family and all those who were privileged to know her.

Mavis is survived by her daughters, Georgina (James) Riddell and Lesley (Donald) Conner; granddaughter, Brittany.

Besides her parents, Mavis was predeceased by her husband, Norman John Hole, who passed away on April 15th, 2007.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Donations in Mavis’ memory can be made to your local animal shelter or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
