Obituary of Betty Christine Fraser

Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

FRASER, Betty Christine, age 67, of Shubenacadie, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.  Born in Sheet Harbour, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Cora (Barkhouse)Owens.

Love and laughter.  Betty gave us both of those and so much more.  Betty was well known within the community, spending many hours volunteering her time at the Shubenacadie United Church and the Shumilacke Food Bank, making many treasured lifelong friends along the way. She could often be found in the kitchen of the church/legion organizing dinners for various benefits (ie: Gala dinner, church dinners, wedding and funeral catering).  During the last few years, the tradition of organizing and fulfilling the wishes on the Angel tree with the help of her daughters and grandchildren brought her so much joy.

Betty was always up for a good card game, be it poker, bridge, crib or bump. Her favorite part of the week was family Sunday suppers with good food and laughter always present. Coming from a large family, she always looked forward to big family gatherings (Christmas in July being a favorite).  She and her sisters had an unbreakable bond, she took great pride in that. She always had a way of making it ok to be yourself, she never judged and always made you feel completely accepted for who you are. She loved unconditionally. No one felt this more than her children.

She will be sadly missed by husband Rheal; children, Racheal (Nathan) Weagle, Jeff (Lindsay) Fraser and Amy (Jordan) Weagle; grandchildren, Owen, Rylan, Keagen, Payton, Carly, Paige and Callum; sisters, Isabelle, Hazel (Bernie), Jessie, Carol, Vickie (David), Susan (Tim)and Brenda (Jimmy); brother, Richie (Connie), brother-in-law, Eldon, who was like a second father to Betty. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister Gloria; brothers, Alex, Gerald, Milton, and an infant brother, Wade.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Homes, Shubenacadie.

A funeral service, respecting COVID-19 protocols, will be held 11 am Monday, July 5, 2021 at Shubenacadie United Church, Rev. Martin Reid officiating.  A live-stream of the service will be available: Facebook: (Shubie United Church)
