On behalf of the dancers in the Square and Round Dance Federation of Nova Scotia, we send our condolences to Zella and the family and friends of Bill. What an impressive career! We are glad that Bill found time during his retirement to enjoy square dancing and shared in our many happy dance evenings and special events.
With sympathy, Dottie and Gary Welch, Secretary SRDFNS

Dedicated to our father
Gerald Handley, who passed away February 25th, 2021
Family Chain
We knew little that morning
That God was going to call your name
In life we all loved you dearly
In death we will do the same
It broke our hearts to lose you
You did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home
You left us with such great memories
Your Love is still our Guide
And, although we can not see you
We know you will always be by our side
Our Family Chain is now broken
and nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The Chain will link again
I’ll be seeing you dad....forever in my heart you will be
Loving you ‘till the cows come home
Your Daughter

Me. Handley was like another Uncle to me growing up. I will always remember his fabulous sense of humor and his kind heart as he opened up his home to us. The world is an emptier place without him.

Dear Zella and family, Dayrl and I, along with Jennifer, Jackie and their families, send our sincere condolences on the passing of dear Bill. When we were dating, Dayrl often spoke of his sister and her husband being in the military in Germany and that they would soon be coming home. I was eager to meet them and was so pleased to see that they were very accepting of Dayrl's new girlfriend. As the years went by, we observed their military career, always eager to receive that well-informed Christmas card, complete with family pictures. Zella was so good at keeping in touch. Life brings both sunshine and rain and, together, we laughed and cried. Bill was a balanced family man and enjoyed the simple things in life. He was not one to talk incessantly about his military service but, rather, about the people who meant the most to him. He was interesting to have a conversation with, and best of all, his larger-than-life laugh. He will be missed by so many. Love, Dayrl and Judy Burgess

Dear Mrs. Handley and family,
I presently live in Newfoundland but was born and raised in Halifax. I regularly review on line the obituaries in the Chronicle Herald and read Bill’s obituary because his parent’s names were familiar to me and Bill’s own service record was so spectacular in the great number of important postings he had.
I noted a reference to an O’Sullivan uncle. My grandmother was Elizabeth O’Sullivan born in Lawrence, Massachusetts who moved as a child to Halifax with her family and eventually married my grandfather Malcom MacFarlane Hall. How the connection to the Handleys came about I don’t know but I am sure that somewhere I have a picture of Harry and his wife at some family function. My parents were Florrie (Ross) and John Hall.
Please accept my condolences at the loss of Bill. As I have an interest in things military it would have been interesting to discuss his military career with him. A family connection (if there is one) would have given us two things to talk about. God bless you and your large family.

I remember the first time I met Uncle Bill. Zella took me to a Christmas Party at her work in Beaver Bank when she was just beginning to date Bill. I was only 5 and already had an Uncle Bill so when I met him, much to Zella's chagrin, I called him Uncle Bill. He got a charge out of that and the two of them spoiled me all day long. It must have been an omen of things to come because they did marry and Zella looked like a Princess in her bridal gown. You could tell how crazy they were for each other which didn't change throughout their years together. I was so lucky to have them in my life for all those years and we spent loads of fun times together. There was always laughter and acceptance. I will always miss Uncle Bill. Bruce and I send our sincere condolences to the whole family. There will never be another like him.

I'm not even sure where to start. To Zella and family: Bill was an extraordinary man, and will be missed by so many. From the day I met him 36 years ago, as a young friend of his only daughter, I was welcomed into his home and his family. Over the years Geoff and I have enjoyed his company with many fishing and hunting stories. May his memory bring you great joy ❤
