Obituary of Yvonne Kingston Stein

STEIN, Yvonne Kingston- age 88 of Toronto, passed away peacefully at home in Enfield on December 21, 2020.

Yvonne attended the Ontario College of Art (Toronto), graduating in advertising art.  She owned and operated a commercial art studio in Toronto.  Then, with her first husband (Tom Stein), she co-managed a chain of ladies’ fashion stores, specializing in advertising and promotion. She helped found and direct Artists 25 of Toronto for over 17 years.  This is a studio where artists can paint and draw from models. Yvonne had a painting background with a great uncle of distinction (J.W.L Forster- a portrait painter) having paintings in galleries of prominence. She studied painting under Gerald Scott, Franklin Arbuckle, Tom Nichols, and George Pepper.  She has also created sculptures with Francis Gage. Yvonne has gone on various painting trips in Canada, France and Crete with fellow artists and the Toronto Arts and Letters Club.  She has participated in solo and group exhibits with paintings in several private collections, including a painting of St. Francis (located in the church of St. Francis of Assisi in Florida) and a panoramic view of Mont Tremblant for a private client to name a few. Yvonne was born in Toronto but recently called Nova Scotia home having lived here for the last decade.

Yvonne is survived by stepdaughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Mitchell, Enfield, & Josephine “Jo-Anne” (Mark) Simpson, Tiny, ON; grandmother to Dr. Kirk (Amy) Baker, Chicago, IL; Meghan (John) Lloyd-Duggan, Enfield; Caitlin Simpson, Ottawa, ON; Wesley Simpson, Cornwall, ON; great grandmother to Mitchell, Callum & Connor Lloyd, Matthew Duggan & Cameron & Zachary Baker.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her second husband, Perry Stewart.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. No service will be held at this time.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the family friends and caregivers who made it possible for Yvonne to remain comfortably at home.
