Currie Stewart

Obituary of Currie Stewart

Please share a memory of Currie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

STEWART, Elmer “Currie” age 81 of Lantz, formerly of the Musquodoboit Valley, passed away surrounded by his family on November 15, 2020 in the VG Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.

Born in Upper Musquodoboit, he was a son of the late Elmer and Leona (Miller) Stewart.

Currie had a love for his family like no other, but nothing matched the love he had for his grandchildren.  He was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion for hunting and fishing, who spent many hours working away in the wood pile making sure he had enough wood for the next three winters. He was especially proud to have lived the past 35+ years in his ancestry home in Lindsay Lake.  Currie made canes and created hundreds of them over the years.  He could “McGyver” anything with a safety pin, clothes pin and an elastic band, most often wearing a safety pin attached to his button-down shirt.  He was an avid gun and coin collector.  Currie was proud of his Scottish heritage, loved wearing his kilt, listening to bagpipes and never missed the annual festival of tartan event.

He will be sadly missed by the love of his life, his wife of 47 years, Debbie, daughters Teyawna (Jason), Angie (Byron – who was like the son he never had) and Stephanie; grandchildren Tyler (Jessie) Moore, Morgan (Kenzie) Moore, Madeline “Maddie” Penney, Oliver Moore and Lila Stewart “Tiny Dancer”; siblings Mona, Bruce, Calvin, Boyde, Eric and Karen, numerous nieces and nephews and his four legged companion Henry.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Loren, Ivan and Bryan; sisters, Norma and Erma.

A private funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday November 21, 2020 in Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions and limited space, a livestream of the service will be held at:  https://event.forgetmenotceremonies.com/ceremony?c=3ae8cc8c-553b-4efe-8cc8-a2390f53e8f5 which will also be available on Currie’s memorial on the Ettinger website.

Family flowers only.

Special thank you to the staff on the 3rd floor of the ICU, VG site, especially Molly and Autumn who provided Currie with exceptional care in his final days.
