Obituary of Walter Ronald Farmer

Walter Ronald Farmer passed away peacefully at home, on Thursday November 5, 2020 at the age of 76. Walter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Anne Farmer (Donaldson), two children: Valarie Helmond and Matthew Farmer, three grandchildren: Alec, Maria, and Lucas, two great grandchildren: Sophia and Ava.
Walter was born the fourth child to the late George and Lillian (Brophy) Farmer of Sydney. Walter attended (St. Joseph’s) The Academy, The JR. College, ST. F.X. (BA) and Dalhousie (B.Ed.). Walter taught math for seven years at Hants North over a two-time span, seven years at Hants East as a teacher and Vice Principal, four years at Bible Hill Junior as Vice Principal and thirteen years at the School Board Office in Truro as Assistant Superintendent. He retired early in 1996.
Walter and his family enjoyed summers at the cottage on Shaw’s Lake. Walter enjoyed the company of his dear friends, often over a game of Bridge or Cribbage.
Walter travelled with Betty to: Scotland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Rhine River Cruise, Austria, Switzerland, and a few times to Florida and Cuba.
Walter enjoyed wood carving loons. He did some bookkeeping for his church in Enfield and served on the School Advisory Council for Enfield Elementary.
Walter received love and support from his family: Fred Farmer, Earl “Bud” & Carol Farmer, Yvonne Crawford, Rick & Gloria Farmer, Robert & Ann- Marie Farmer, and his sister, Judie Reddy. Walter’s family wishes to acknowledge the memory of: Donna Farmer, Barry Farmer and Cyril Reddy.
Walter’s family would like to thank VON, Palliative Care, Home Care, and all the Doctors involved with his care. Their help and support were greatly appreciated.
Walter is to be cremated and a private funeral service will be held at St Bernard’s Church in Enfield, Thursday November 12th, 2020 at 11:00 am. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the service will be held for family, social distancing will be practiced and masks will be required. A Celebration of life will take place at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Organization for Rare Diseases and the Cancer Society.
