I was just thinking of him today and Googled his name. So sorry to see he's gone. I was remembering those creative writing assignments for him and that it was hard work and challenging, but also really fun. Especially when most teachers taught us to memorize, not to think. Probably the best teacher I had. Hope he had a fulfilling life - it does seem like he did.

My condolences to Ian's closest family and friends. Ian was a person who I engaged in congenial conversations at HERH and later on at Mount Allison before he went to Dalhousie. It is great to learn that he married and enjoyed family life.

Dear Carol and family , So sad to hear about Ian. He was one of my oldest and dearest friends from HERH. No S and B or any social gathering was complete without Ian. My first full year teaching job was thanks to Ian and his deferred leave. We will all miss him very much. We may have some kind of S and B celebration in his honour , have to figure out the Covid restrictions.Certainly we have all raised a glass already in his memory. Love , Gerald and Connie Parker.

Dear Mr Meadows, I just read yesterday of your passing and share with your family in the pain at the loss of a good man, an excellent teacher and a fine sport.
Dear Carol and Family,
Ian, Rest in peace. We had the pleasure, the good times, with many fruitful 'discussions' in class, some hard work and , yes, the pain sometimes too -- since Mr Meadows is remembered as a demanding, no-nonsense teacher ,-- of having him for Grade XI English, 1975, and boy , Oh boy, there was no fooling about with a pro' educator like him at HERH. Maybe even as much as the poems, the proper spelling and the Shakespeare, we shall all recall his many victories in weightlifting when he led young lads like Steve Lumsden ,my teammate in other sport, M. Annand & V. Sharma to cross-province triumphs. Later he taught my brother Roland. He continued always to be well-liked by students & staff. I fondly recall one tile when he he shut me up in class with an unassailable argument about English and French spoken in Canada... ''Yes, he said, but there is no such thing as 'pure language'. . Now, Doug, why don't you concentrate on the assignment and get that composition in on time this time?'' Lesson learnt !
Receive my sincere condolences and know that Mr Meadows will long be cherished and remembered by every student of his. Thank you, Mr Meadows.
Sincerely from France, another English teacher, -- Douglas J' Scott ( of Shub'ie).

So sorry to hear of "Mr. Meadows" passing. He was my favourite teacher and he gave me a weightlifting badge even though I was not on the weight lifting team. We were so thrilled that he came to our 40 year HERH reunion. We were hoping to see him again at our 2021 HERH reunion. He was a great influence on so many lives. Rest in peace our teacher and friend.
Sincerely,

Deepest condolences to Carol and family. Rest In Peace dear Ian. Can’t thank you enough for all you did for so many. You gave your heart and soul to weightlifting and helped us all. From the first time we met you were always there to support and encourage. Sharing your garage to let us train, opening your home as a mini hotel for us traveling lifters. Sharing hotel rooms to help reduce costs as we travelled together over the years. Coaching at the drop of a hat at any competition to offer help. Doing the sport we all love justice as a true friend and sportsman. So many of us are with heavy hearts hearing this news, but remembering “Uncle Ian” will bring us all a smile to cherish your memory.

Dear Carol,
It is with great sadness that I hear of your loss. I have nothing but fond memories of you both over so many years. He certainly was an educator, my favourite teacher even though it was English literature! And of course he had a passion for weightlifting and helping all of us achieve our personal best. Each of us felt that we could only do better and better with his coaching and he made each of us feel special. I greatly enjoyed, too, the visits in these later years. You both were such great hosts.
He will be missed by me and well-remembered with great fondness.
My deepest condolances to you.

Carol, Jim and families:
Was saddened to hear that Mr. Meadows has died.
He taught me throughout my high school years at “Hants East Rural High. “ He was a funny guy and had such a great, dry sense of humour. He was well respected as one of the best weight lifting coach’s around. I will always remember his unique hair do, his athletic abilities and his smile.
I hope the memories that you have and hear about over many months and years to come help you through this difficult time.

Carol , Jim and Judy,
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Meadows passing; he was an amazing teacher and always entertaining ! Carol, a few years ago, my husband and I were sitting outside The Lower Deck when all of the sudden I looked over and saw you and Ian and another couple. In my excitement (after all, I graduated in 1982), I screamed " MR. MEADOWS ! " I didn't expect that to come out of my mouth so loud, but it did. Ian laughed but I knew he was flattered. You all came over and spent a few minutes with us and of course, I had to explain who I was, but Ian remembered me through Jim's brother in law (John). I remember leaving that day feeling so grateful... Ian had a way of just making people feel GOOD. My gosh... he really never changed his looks one bit, did he ? Carol, know that you have many, many community members thinking of you. May the coming days be filled with wonderful stories to carry you through this difficult time.
SIncerly,
Michelle Anthony,
