I served with Andy in the RN at Culdrose in Cornwall. He was a most likeable man who brought his special sense of humour to our squadron life. I remember he built a kit car using an old Mini for spare parts. It resembled a Mini Moke, which were very popular at the time. We rather unkindly referring to Andy's new car as a mobile skip, which was a little insensitive becuase he had spent so much time and effort on the project. He took our joking well and kept smiling, as he always did. He and Beverly were always smiling and laughing. Condolences to his family. He'll be sadly missed. John Baker

Andy was certainly one of the best. I worked with him at CanJet where he would readily share his experiences at the gazebo in Miami over a few beers or a bottle (or two) of wine. When he retired, he was sorely missed by all. God speed Andy, until we meet again.

Andy you will be missed.
You and I first met at Air Atlantic and flew many hours together. Onwards together through the transition to Inter-Canadien, Canada 3000 and CanJet our close association and friendship was very important to me. Our years together in the training department were the best of times and I was always grateful for the guidance and advice that you happily shared. Andy you were respected by all of us who knew you. You were a mentor as well as a good friend and I feel lucky we were able to visit recently. I will miss our talks and especially the “Pipe and drum videos”!
Rest In Peace pal.

I first met Andy when he was hired at Air Atlantic, he arrived in a brand new Volvo (which none of us could afford) so we were all impressed and then he smiled and that famous Andy grin will be how I always remember him. Andy took over the Aviation Safety Manager position from Jack Hardy and when we started CanJet one of my first calls was to Andy to assume that role. He was alway a great pilot and very popular with crews. After retirement Malcolm Reid and I flew over several times for lunch with some ex Air Atlantic/ CanJet guys and whenever I emailed him to see if he was interested in meeting up his response was always simply “I’m in!”
My last visit was via FaceTime and he was wearing his cool hat and big grin - and as usual no complaining! That is how I will remember him always.

Andy and I served together on 771 Squadron at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose in the mid-seventies. I can see in my logbook that our last flight was on 10 May 1977 with 5 SAR aircrewman students doing winching as in this picture and maybe even this aircraft.
A great pilot and friend at that time and I have often thought of him and Bev over the years. We had some outrageous parties at their house I recall. Condolences to all their family and rest easy Andy, your sortie is now complete.

I met Andy when he was initially hired with Air Atlantic. The consummate pilot and a gentleman in every sense.
Flying West
I hope there's a place, way up in the sky,
Where pilots can go, when they have to die-
A place where a guy can go and buy a cold beer
For a friend and comrade, whose memory is dear;
A place where no doctor or lawyer can tread,
Nor management type would ere be caught dead;
Just a quaint little place, kinda dark and full of smoke,
Where they like to sing loud, and love a good joke;
The kind of place where a lady could go
And feel safe and protected, by the men she would know.
There must be a place where old pilots go,
When their paining is finished, and their airspeed gets low,
Where the whiskey is old, and the women are young,
And the songs about flying and dying are sung,
Where you'd see all the fellows who'd flown west before.
And they'd call out your name, as you came through the door;
Who would buy you a drink if your thirst should be bad,
And relate to the others, "He was quite a good lad!"
And then through the mist, you'd spot an old guy
You had not seen for years, though he taught you how to fly.
He'd nod his old head, and grin ear to ear,
And say, "Welcome, my son, I'm pleased that you're here.
"For this is the place where true flyers come,
"When the journey is over, and the war has been won
"They've come here to at last to be safe and alone
From the government clerk and the management clone,
"Politicians and lawyers, the Feds and the noise
Where the hours are happy, and these good ol'boys
"Can relax with a cool one, and a well-deserved rest;
"This is Heaven, my son -- you've passed your last test!"

Bev and Family,
Andy was truly one of the best co-workers I have ever had the pleasure to fly with. Most of all, I remember his wonderful sense of humor and of course that jolly laugh. When Tom, Mike, and I dropped in for a visit last week, it was great to see you and Andy, share some stories and have a few chuckles.
Sincerely,
Ray Faulkner

I was on the same Commando OFT with Andy in 1973 and flew with him during this course. Many years later, whilst serving as an instructor on the Aircrewman School at RNAS Culdrose, I was recalled from Summer leave along with POACMN Aidan O'Sullivan on August 14 August 1979 and crewed up with Andy to go to the assistance of yachts in the South West Approaches caught up in the Fastnet Race disaster. The weather conditions were appalling yet with the dogged determination and outstanding piloting skills of Andy, we managed to effect the rescue of a yacht crew member adrift in a dinghy and return him safely to Culdrose. As a crew we were responsible for saving this one life but Andy was also responsible for bringing his crew back in one piece, we all owe him our lives.

My deepest and heartfelt condolences to Beverley and Andy’s family. I will always cherish the memories of our trips to the simulator in Miami and countless free breakfast meetings at the Marriott. We shared many laughs and stories under the gazebo swatting off Florida’s mosquito squadron. Andy’s faithful leadership, fun and enthusiastic approach to the profession was evident to all who knew him. You will be sincerely missed Andy.

To Bev and family, our deepest condolences go out to you during this difficult time. We will always remember Andy as a true professional and great teacher, but more than that we will remember his huge heart and even bigger smile and laugh. I will always treasure our trips to Miami, sitting by the gazebo, with a bottle of red, and trying to solve all the worlds problems. Fly high Andy, you will be missed.
