Obituary of Rhoda Mae Rogers
Please share a memory of Rhoda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ROGERS, Rhoda Mae (nee Thompson) – of Truro, formerly of Stewiacke, passed away in Truro on January 7, 2020. She was born in Elmsdale on August 1, 1923 and was the sixth of nine children (5 boys and 4 girls) in the Edward and Maggie Thompson family. Predeceased by husband Harold, Rhoda is survived by her 3 boys: Rick (Carol), Nanton, Alberta; Terry (Heather), Victoria, BC; and Charlie (Joyce), Winnipeg, Manitoba; and many cherished grandchildren (Rob, Scott, Todd, Brian, Tammy, Doug, Susan and Danny); as well as many more great-grandchildren.
As an Air Force family, Rhoda and Harold moved frequently as they served in Ottawa, Germany, Camp Borden, Ontario, Rivers, Manitoba, and Cold Lake, Alberta before finally retiring on Riverside Road in Stewiacke, N.S. She had many well-developed surprises to show her grandchildren as she unmercifully taunted hockey referees, lit land clearing bonfires, drove her golf cart with reckless abandon, knew the words to many songs and taught them the joys of different card and board games. She was an excellent cook and ensured a fresh pie or cake finished each dinner setting and she could be counted on for a hearty laugh after telling a good joke.
The matriarch of the Rogers clan will be dearly missed, as her infectious smile and wonderful memories will be in our hearts forever. She had a genuine zest for life and a friendly disposition that made lasting memories for those around her. We were indeed blessed to have had her as our dear Mom for more than 96 years.
Many thanks to niece, Linda Rogers and all of the Cedarstone Extended Care staff for their excellent level of care and comfort for Rhoda during her final days. No service by request.
