Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
BROOKS, Eleanor Marie , age 68 of Indian Brook, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2017 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Kentville, NS, she was a daughter of the late Louis and the late Annie (Marr) Brooks. Eleanor was a protector and her safe nature caused children of all ages to gravitate to her. Over the course of her life, Eleanor cared for over a hundred children; some of whom were from military families, neighbourhood families, Aboriginal and non Aboriginal families, nephews and nieces. Eleanor shared parenting roles with her sister Shirley Anne, and brother in law Huey Taylor, and helped to raise 4 children and many grandchildren. She was known for her fried bread recipe. Eleanor was raised a Nevin, became a Taylor, and all throughout, she carried with her the mannerisms and smile of her Brooks family. She is survived by sisters Shirley, Eleanor, Jean, Margaret, Roseanne and Sheila; brothers Stevie, Wallace, William, Anthony, David and Jimmy; and Brenda Tracy, Eleanor’s closest cousin, who remained by her bedside in her final years. She was predeceased by brother Frank and a sister in infancy, and by the nephew that she helped raise, William Taylor, who will welcome her at the Gates of Heaven. Among her last wishes was direct thanks given to the nurses, doctors and staff members of the CEHHC, the QEII, and the Truro Hospital. Eleanor, the consummate secret keeper, will be remembered for her warm and comforting spirit, and for embodying trust, loyalty, and love to the people whom she encountered. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. Visitation will be held after 12 noon, October 4, at 87 Sesame Street, Indian Brook. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 am, Saturday October 7, 2017 at St. Kateri's Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Catherine's R.C. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association. Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Eleanor may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
