Obituary of Lyra Geraldine Deal

DEAL (DOTTEN), Lyra Geraldine “Gerry” – age 88 of Halifax formerly of Selma passed away September 5, 2017 in Parkland Estates, Halifax. Born in Northfield, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Ervan and Ellen (Laffin) Dotten. Loving, caring, giving and selfless, Gerry was always the first there when friends or family suffered hardship. Family came first and meant the world to her. She will be sadly missed by her children, Cynthia (Rodney) McMillan, Patricia (Leon) Taylor, Daniel (Deanna) Deal and Chandler (Louise) Deal; grandchildren, Troy, Megan and Jill McMillan, Jordan Thies and Emmalee Taylor, Christopher and Michael Deal, Joshua, Ellie and Nathaniel Deal; as well as a number of great grandchildren; sister, Sherron Hamilton. She was predeceased by her husband Brenton Rupert; brothers, Frank (Second World War), Leonard; sisters, Carol in infancy, Dorothy Yachyra, Shirley Gould and granddaughter Heidi Thies. Donations may be made to the Selma Community Cemetery, c/o Stacy Sherman, 7580 Highway 215, Maitland, NS B0N 1T0 Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A graveside service will be held at 11am Monday, September 11 in Selma Community Cemetery, Hants Co. Following the service, a gathering will be held at Daniel and Deanna’s home from 2-4pm.
