DENSMORE, Carl Douglas-age 85 of Stewiacke. It is with a great sense of loss we announce the death of our husband, father, grandfather and good friend, Carl Douglas Densmore, who died peacefully at Elk Court, Brookfield on Sunday February, 19, 2017. He was born in Stewiacke on May 4, 1931 to Albert and Katie Belle (Cameron) Densmore. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris (Clark) of 61 years; his children, Beverly (Paul) Higgins, Shortt’s Lake; and Brian (Wanda Cornish), Stewiacke; grandchildren, Nicholas, Stewiacke; Natasha, Truro; Meghan and Kelly, Halifax; sister, Shirley Murrie, Edmonton. He was predeceased by sister, Dora; brothers, Albert “Bud”, Prince’s Lodge and Harry “Dan”, Stewiacke. Carl was a life member of St. Andrews United Church and had volunteered many hours on committees and meetings which included the addition of the new hall. He was an Elder in the church, and served on the Board of Stewards as well as the building committee. Unfortunately, he was unable to continue due to his illness. He attended school in Fort Ellis and left early to work in the family lumbering business which progressed over the years into construction and eventually becoming owner of Densmore Construction with his son, Brian. Carl had coached minor hockey and ball teams for many years in the Stewiacke and East Hants leagues, as well as assisted coaching in Brookfield for a year. He was a member of Stewiacke Town Council for a term and served on the executive of the Brookfield Sportsplex for a year. He was a member of the Stewiacke Men’s Club and member of the Brookfield Curling Club. Carl enjoyed meeting with the gang at Tim’s each morning for tea. He was an avid gardener and spent most of his summer hours growing and weeding vegetables. A very special thanks to the staff at Elk Court for the compassionate care they provided to Carl. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2pm, Thursday February 23 in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Rev. David LeBlanc officiating. A reception will follow. Interment will take place in the spring. Donations in memory of Carl may be made to the Shumilacke Food Bank. Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Carl may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com
