Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ARSENAULT (ETTINGER-DIMOCK) Irene Z - Age 82, of Kennetcook. On September 14, 2016, I have gone to a better place to dwell. I was born in Kennetcook on July 10, 1934 to Ercil and Gladys (Fader) Ettinger and lived there most of my life, raising my 6 children. Their father was H. Gilbert Dimock. I worked in various places in Kennetcook and Halifax, notably the old Kennetcook Hotel as a cook, various taxi companies, Halifax Herald and Atlantic Wholesalers. I later married Ken Arsenault and moved back to Kennetcook to be with my elderly mother. I was a founding member of the R.C.L. Hants North Branch 166, serving as membership chairman, 1st Vice-President and Padre. I was also a founding member of Kennetcook Community Visions. Many of my favourite pastimes included darts, tole painting, playing cards, scrabble and watching my favourite team, the Toronto Blue Jays. I have spent many fun hours doing crossword puzzles and crypto quotes. Years ago, I sang and played the guitar, accompanying my fiddle playing brothers. In our later years, Ken and I settled in Enfield where we made more wonderful friends to add to our already long list. I became a member of the Enfield Baptist Church. I am survived by my dearest family who have never failed me; children, Debbie (late Zar Arsenault), Jo-Ann (Vaughn) Shepherd, Reginald (Debbie), Steven (Darlene), Danny (Tina); stepchildren, Muriel (Chuck) Jackson and Kenneth (Lynn) Arsenault Jr.; sisters, Alma Harvey, Elsie Arseneau; brother, Laurence (Doris) Ettinger; grandchildren, Kalum Arsenault, Cole Dimock, Kelsie (James) Dimock Lenson; step-grandchildren, Alicia (Brian) Ward, Tommy, Daniel and Rebecca Arsenault and Johnny Wilson; great grandchild, Isabelle Lenson; step-great grandchildren, Kyle, Felicity and Katie Ward. I was predeceased by my parents Gladys and Ercil; son, Dennis at 9 months; husband, Ken; sisters, Marguerite “Cuddy” Miller, Ethel Stewart; brothers, Murray, Ken, Reg and Howard. Special thank you to VON, Palliative Care, family and friends. Visitation will be held 1pm Saturday, Sept. 17 with funeral service to follow at 2pm both in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, Pastor Dale Greer and Rev. Angus R. MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home hospitality area. Interment will be in Kennetcook United Church Cemetery.
