Obituary of Shirley Jeanne McPhee

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
McPHEE, (NOLTER) (FENTON), Shirley Jeanne, age 85 of Hardwood Lands, passed away at Windsor Elms Village on May 16, 2016, surrounded by love and family. Born in Kemptown, she was one of nine children of the late Joseph and Olga (Slack) Fenton. Shirley was a hard worker dedicated to raising her family, cooking in lumber camps, cleaning houses and sewing for a large client base. Regardless of how busy she was, she always found time for her friends, enjoyed dancing, music and her community groups. She enjoyed life at Windsor Elms. She participated in all activities, and continued to make new friends, always taking the time to encourage other residents to live each day to it’s fullest and taking those in need under her wing. When her busy schedule permitted, she was always up to going out for a walk in the Village Garden or a good meal, a scenic drive, a theater performance, a visit to friends and of course a trip to any mall that contained an Alia store. Earning a “local celeb status”, it was critical that she found the appropriate outfit and rescheduled her hair appointment for any of the prestige special events that she would be attending. Outside friends stayed in close contact, often calling family to check on her as they had been unable to reach her. Looking back, there should have been a voice recording “please call again after 8pm as I am either at a meeting or out playing with friends”. Her positive attitude and caring ways have inspired surviving daughters Susan Harvey, Sharon Preston (Drew); son Lee Nolter (Amelia); stepchildren, Sheila Pearl (Roland), Scotty McPhee, Sherry McPhee and Shane McPhee; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Diane Bush (Alan), Josephine MacLean; brothers, Joseph Fenton (Marilyn), Peter Fenton (Sylvia); sisters in-law Delores Fenton and Millie Fenton; former son in-law Kevin Harvey, former daughter in-law Corrine Nolter and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husbands William and Fulton; son, Robert; granddaughter, Heather; sister, Louise Youngblut; brothers, Boyd, Ben and David Fenton. Visitation will be held 6-8pm Thursday, May 19 at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie from where a funeral service will be held 1pm Friday, May 20, Rev. Canon David Fletcher officiating. As per Shirley’s wishes there will be no reception following the service. A private family committal will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Windsor Elms Village or a charity of choice. Our Family would like to thank the amazing staff of Windsor Elms for the love and respect shown to our Mom over the last one and a half years, and for the excellent support and exceptional care during the final days of her journey. Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Shirley may be shared with the family at www.ettingerfuneralhome.com.
