TURPLE, Vernon Alfred, 85 - Enfield and Cooks Brook, passed away peacefully Saturday June 1, 2013 at the Magnolia Nursing Home. Born in Oakfield, he was a son of the late William and Hazel Irene (Phillips) Turple. He had a broad array of interests including building and operating a saw mill, growing and selling Christmas trees, supporting his family members within the local stock car racing scene, gardening and spending numerous hours over the years helping his children and grandchildren with projects that they had on the go (whether requested or not, lol). Vernon spent most of his working years in the paving industry, ending with his family business of Enfield Paving. Vernon will always be remembered as the man with the caboose in his yard and bathtubs full of flowers at the end of his driveway. He was a very dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be remembered by all as "Papa". He can now be at peace as he searches for his "next job". He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lorna Mae Turple (Beaumont), whom is also a resident of the Magnolia, his seven children; Angie Telford of Eastern Passage, Debbie Haince (Andre) of Enfield, Billy (Debbie) of Enfield, Patty McMullin (Merlin) of Lake Egmont, Timmy (Kim) of Fall River, Beannie (Laura) of Fletchers Lake and Lesa Turple (Doug Deyarmond) of Stewiacke East, he is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by brothers, Earl, George, Clarie, Ronald and Arthur Turple; sisters, Susie Parker , Ruth King, Alice Parks, Pearl Turple and Mary Turple. Cremation has taken place. A "Celebration of Life" visitation will be held 7-9pm Wednesday at the Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2 Shubenacadie. No funeral by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society. Special thanks to Dianne (Di-zy) and all the staff at the Magnolia for their care and compassion.
